CPT is an entry level test for Chartered Accountancy Course.

Note: If you are a graduate / post-graduate or intermediate passed student of the ICSI or ICWAI then you can puruse CA under Direct Entry Scheme, in which you will be exempted from passing CPT.


How to do CPT?

One has to register for Common Proficiency Course (CPC) then fill Common Proficiency Test (CPT) Examination form. Thereafter, appear for CPT and pass it. CPT is conducted twice every year, in June and December.

  • Any student after passing class 10th (percentage no criteria) can register for Common Proficiency Course (CPC).
  • After appearing for the senior secondary (10+2) examination he/she has to submit an application form for appearing in Common Proficiency Test (CPT) Examination.

Students after registration to the course are required to complete specified period (i.e. 60 days) from the date of registration to as on the first day of the month in which examination is to be held, i.e., students registered on or before 1st April/1st October will be eligible to appear in June/ December examination, as the case may be.

Course / Exam Structure

CPT examination is divided in two sessions, both conducted same day, morning and afternoon.

Session - I (Two Sections - Two Hours - 10:30AM to 12:30AM IST - 100 Marks)

  • Section A: Fundamentals of Accounting (60 Marks)
  • Section B: Mercantile Laws (40 Marks)

Session - II (Two Sections - Two hours - 2:00PM to 4:00PM IST - 100 Marks)

  • Section C: General Economics (50 Marks)
  • Section D: Quantitative Aptitude (50 Marks)

Passing Criteria

A CPT candidate is passed if he/she meets the following requirements in one sitting:

  • Minimum of 30% marks in each section.
  • And a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all the sections.
